Description
The Aurlandsfjord is an arm of the Sognefjord and this photo was taken near the village of Flam, Norway. The Sognefjord reaches a maximum depth of 4,291 ft (1,308 m) below sea level, and the greatest depths are found in the inland parts of the fjord. Cliffs surrounding the fjord rise almost sheer from the water to heights of 3,300 ft (1,000 m) and more. The inner end of the Sognefjord is southeast of a mountain range that rises to about 6,600 ft (2,000 m) above sea level and is covered by the Jostedalsbreen, continental Europe's largest glacier.
