Artist's Description

The lieutenancy building is at the entrance to the old harbour of Honfleur, France. It is the former home of the Governor of Honfleur. Between 1684 and 1789 it was home to the Lieutenant of the King. One of the sides of the building is an old gate to the city which was to be part of the city's fortifications. Expeditions from Honfleur harbour by French navigator Samuel de Champlain led to the founding of Quebec, Canada in 1608.
